PazhamudhirSolai is a famous temple dedicated to Lord Murugan, situated atop a hill in the town of AlagarKovil, which is about 21 kilometers from Madurai in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. The temple is one of the six abodes (Arupadaiveedu) of Lord Murugan, representing his victory over the demon Surapadma.

Perched on a hill and surrounded by dense forests, Palamuthircholai attracts a good number of devotees. It is one of the six thalams of Lord Muruga. Other sites are Thiruparangunram Subramania Swamy Temple, Palani Thandayuthapani Swamy Temple, Swamimalai Swaminatha Swamy Temple, Tiruchendur Senthil Andavar Temple, and Tiruthani Subramania Swamy Temple.

Lord Muruga is worshiped along with Valli and Deivanai at the Palamudir oasis. Legend has it that Lord Muruga tested the famous Tamil poet Avvaiyar when he rested under the shade of a tree near the temple. She was tired after walking for a long time in the hot sun. Lord Muruga appeared before her in the guise of a boy. Then they engaged in clever word games.

Avyayar was moved by the boy's intelligence and begged the boy to reveal his true identity. It is believed that Murugan appeared before her and showered her with grace.
